Discussion Round and Panel

Special Call for Papers and Panels on Crowdfunding and Social Finance

A distinct focus this year is set on two highly-discussed and often intertwined topics: Crowdfunding and Social Finance. Both have been praised in media narrations for holding a tremendous potential for innovative (social) entrepreneurs by a) including the wisdom and judgment of the crowd in investment decisions and b) by overcoming traditional financing constraints for startups.
However, relatively few academic inquiries in Social Finance have taken place so far (Journal of Social Entrepreneurship, Vol. 3, Issue 2), and even fewer explanatory models of Crowdfunding have been built (Lehner 2013). As Nicholls and Pharoah (2007, p. 2) note:

Social finance, therefore, is more than just the flow of money into social or
environmental projects. It is conceived as an ethos about the way money is
used . . . social finance can be seen as the discourse around such flows that is
developing in concrete terms in the new institutions of supply, intermediation,
and demand. This is a discourse in flux with competing perspectives driving
the debate.

This call invites researchers of all disciplines to join in on a dedicated track on Crowdfunding and Social Finance at the conference. We call for individual papers and full panel proposals. There will be an experts’ panel discussion and focus groups on the development of the field. In addition, several partner journals will provide excellent opportunities for later publication.
